What This Model Shows
This easy-to-assemble DNA model recreates the double-helix structure of DNA using specially shaped, brilliantly coloured plastic pieces. Students can deconstruct the double helix into two separate strands by moving the central supporting spine and pulling the helix apart along the hydrogen bonds, then reassemble it to see how the strands fit back together. It is a 12 base-pair model, and each base is a subtly different shape, with the sugars moulded from a slightly different plastic so the assembled model flexes correctly to form a realistic double helix.
