What This Model Shows
This model shows the internal structure and operating principles of a working steam engine. The metal cylinder is cross-section cut and covered with a clear plate so students can watch the movement of the piston inside the cylinder as the engine runs. Movement of the flywheel is light enough to be demonstrated simply by blowing air from one's mouth. The piston and slide valve both move, and the link motion and reversing method can be observed directly.
