What This Apparatus Demonstrates
This apparatus demonstrates that white light is composed of all the spectral colours, through the additive mixing of colours. A multicoloured circular disc, 150mm in diameter, carries sectors of the various spectral colours in the correct proportions. When the disc is rotated at sufficient speed, the individual colours are no longer distinguished by the eye and appear to merge into a single white colour. The disc has a friction pulley at the back that bears on a driving wheel fitted with a handle, and the complete assembly is mounted on a stable base.
