What This Machine Demonstrates
This model simulates a wave-generating machine, for demonstrating the movement of progressive transverse waves. It comprises a number of circular discs, mounted equidistant from each other on a horizontal shaft, set at gradually varying degrees of eccentricity. Each disc carries a vertical rod of the same length, supported on top and sliding up and down within a pair of guides, so that turning the shaft produces a travelling wave pattern along the row of rods. The complete assembly is mounted on a wooden base.
