What This Apparatus Does
This apparatus lets students calibrate a rotameter against an independently measured actual discharge. Water is recirculated through a pipe fitted with a rotameter (0 to 500 LPH range) and a flow-control valve, then collected in a measuring tank (295 x 345 x 345mm) fed from a sump tank (900 x 350 x 350mm); a transparent piezometer tube with a scale reads the discharge collected in the measuring tank, and a stop clock times the collection run. Comparing the rotameter's indicated flow rate against the actual timed discharge is the core calibration exercise. The recirculating unit uses a 0.5HP self-priming pump motor — manufacturer-stated as a Usha or Crompton Greaves make (or an equivalent make, depending on current availability); verify the exact motor brand at the time of order if this is a specification requirement.
