What This Apparatus Does
This apparatus determines the closed-cup flash point of fuel oil, cutback asphalts, and other viscous materials and suspensions of solids, typically for materials with a flash point around 49°C (120°F). It consists of a brass test cup with handle, a removable cup cover with a spring-operated rotating shutter and pilot jet, and a stirrer driven by a flexible shaft. The cup has an insulated handle with a locking arrangement near the cup plunger, and the whole assembly rests in an air bath covered with a dome-shaped metal top, sitting on a round heater with adjustable temperature regulation for operation on 220V AC mains.
