Motorised Governor Apparatus

Description:-

The unit consists of a base on which the bearing holders and driving motor are mounted; the bearing holders can be fitted to provide different end conditions for the test shafts.

End conditions available are both ends fixed, and one end fixed with one end free.

The unit demonstrates the phenomenon of whirling of shafts with a single rotor.

A Variac provides control of the driving motor speed.

As the test is destructive, the test shaft cannot be reused once whirling speed has been reached, so the unit is intended to demonstrate the principle rather than for repeated production testing.

Results obtained are closer to theory compared to those obtained with bare (unloaded) shafts.

It can also be demonstrated that, after passing through the whirling speed, the shaft again starts running true.
