Slip and Creep Measurement Apparatus
Description:-

The apparatus consists of a variable-speed D.C. motor driving equal-diameter driving and driven pulleys.

A brake drum mounted on the output shaft helps measure power output.

The pulleys are mounted on the input shaft (motor shaft) and the output shaft.

The driven pulley can slide on the base with a bearing block to change the initial tension in the belt.

Motor speed is varied by a dimmerstat, and a two-channel RPM indicator measures the speeds of the driven and driving pulleys.

Experimentation:-

To measure the coefficient of friction between the pulley material and different belt materials.

To measure power transmitted with varied belt tensions and plot a graph of (T1?T2) tension characteristics.

To measure percentage slip at fixed belt tension by varying the load on the brake drum and plot a graph of (T1?T2) vs. percentage slip, i.e. slip characteristics.

To find the creep zone from the graph.

To measure belt slip speed and observe the limiting value at constant speed when slip just starts.
